To be honest, it is only after coming to the US that I experienced hot and cold water and also running water - in South Africa where we lived, there was constant water shortages - a big tank outside the house would be filled once a week by a water tanker and then we carried bucket of water inside the house

Some people would heat water on coal stove for a warm bath while some had water heaters in the bathroom called a geyser

I guess when you grow up in a place where there was water shortage and unreliable power, you tend to develop a real appreciation for these things
