Oh my...I didn't know how to respond as it is different in say my culture...(you are allowed to ask and can expect to hear prying questions) but I rather let the other party know I'm listening and here for them rather than try a platitude...

But your yoga instructor's remark tho...takes the cake for awkward platitude statements...
