I first started losing my hair and going bald in my late twenties. For a woman who comes from a culture where long hair is idealized, it was a panic inducing situation to say the least!

My first course of action was to cut my waist long hair to shoulder length in the hopes that it would appear thicker. When that didn’t work, I chopped off my locks to neck length. Yet, I continued to lose hair at an alarming rate.

Some of the most common culprits of hair loss in women include: medications, stress, illness, hormones, nutritional deficiency and certain types of hairstyles.

Part of the reason for my hair loss was an undiagnosed thyroid condition which, as you know, can do quite the number on a person’s hair and the other was due to severe emotional stress.
