It is a choice but not one every one has, unfortunately

I have friends who were forced to give up an education to marry (before they got too long in the tooth) and have kids - then they spent their lives toiling away in the kitchen cooking for the joint families they were married into - you can't go against your parents wishes at least back then or face the consequences - without an education or a job women were pretty much at the mercy of their fathers/husbands/in laws
