In the old country, there is so much pressure to marry young (before the woman grows long in the tooth - so they say) and start having kids- when she has one, they ask when the couple is planning for a sibling for the first kid - and yea, if she is not fortunate to have a boy among the first couple - there is family pressure to keep on going till she has a male child -

Pls note the pressure is all on the 'she' and not the 'he' because it is a patriachial society -

Am not surprised that couples are not into having kids anymore - I certainly don't see society pitching in to help pay the expenses or college education -
