In one way I am glad that drinking in our culture, up till my gen, at least was severely frowned upon and met with serious consequences (for women) - otherwise I'm sure it would have gotten out of hand just as it has with the men - so even though I am no fan of our culture, there is a silver lining sometimes

Something that jumped out at me from reading this is - I am my mother's daughter but I am certainly not my mother which in itself is a rebellious statement from a cultural pedestal because mothers are put on a pedestal (because they are made to sacrifice so much for family)
