In my culture, rarely do ppl donate to causes without an expectation of their name being announced as a donor - it ups their prestige - I guess the those asking for the donations oblige because they want to keep the donors happy

You're right, real kindness is giving without expecting anything in return - I have seen life to give it back ten fold that way
