In many cultures around the world, women still stay home due to lack of education or freedom and are ofttentimes in a vulnerable position. There is alos little outside help because people stay away from 'family business' such as when the husband uses his fists on the wife to teach her a lesson. I have seen it happen here that too among educated folks but the women are too ashamed or scared to do anything about it.
