I started writing on this platform with no expectations...and I think that was good because I could just be myself and write what I wanted, the way I wanted. Yes, there is a lot of conflicting advice out there but I feel it is best to do what you are comfortable with...

As for money making, barring viral articles, I don't know how this is possible unless you have a huge audience that actively reads your work.

But then again, making a couple hundred $ is possible in my experience with writing your own way, about things you are passionate about.
