I have heard of such things happening a dictatorship - it is unbelievable but I guess that is what brainwashing does - it could create a false sense of security or perhaps denial of the ugly reality

What you talked about mental health struck a chord because for the longest time, it was something easily overlooked in my culture - that pretending it does not exist means it does not exist - thankfully those things are changing now
