I have heard diff versions of this - why do bad things happen to good ppl?

Once, a friend told me something while I was going through a tough time(s) in my life - that God gives hardships to those who can bear the weight - I thought that was so unfair when I heard it but in hindsight I see I had to go through those moments to be the person I am today
