I feel you - however I come from a family where my mom was not very keen on having family or friends over unless invited - that way we rarely had anyone stay over which may have been a good thing - I am not a fan of it either and prefer to keep things by invitation only -

And thankfully we've never had the appaling experience that you descriebed - how can ppl be this insensitive?
