I Donated My Wedding Gown. In Hindsight, I Should Have Burned It
I hope the girl who wears it has better luck than I did
The wedding after
Unlike many young girls, I never envisioned my wedding.
Yes, it ended up being a fancy shindig but all I was thinking at that moment was I was finally getting to escape my dysfunctional family and move far, far away.
In case you are wondering, happily ever after did not happen, however, misery and unhappiness did but more about that later.
In my culture, the family plays an important role in a wedding. Sounds good on paper but the downside is each member will have a strong opinion about everything and there is bound to be drama if they are ignored in the decision-making.
I recall there was a faction of my family who chose to be uncooperative but did not hesitate to pass judgment just because their suggestion of caterers was overlooked. I think it was more due to missing out on a commission for recommending said caterers than being offended.
Family — what can you do?
Ultimately, my mom took charge of the wedding planning and made short work of finalizing the guest list, the menu, and the venue’s decor.
