I come from a patriachal culture where women are taught from an early age not to have an opinion and be selfless instead of selfish - I doubt my grandmother had a spare moment from all the work she did managing her household, caring for her in laws and also the farm - it was a lot of work and I doubt she had any time for herself

It is hard to not abide by the rules there which makes me happy that I am living in culture that promotes self care and setting boundaries - you can't give out of an emotional bank account that is red - so yes, I prioritize personal growth more
