I am still astonished by how some cultures are trying to hold on to some misguided belief that sparing the rod will spoil the child (for example, the culture I come from which I share a love hate relationship with) - all the rod does is instill fear - a lifelong unnecessary fear of authority not to mention the psychological & physical scars
