It is also common in my culture that grandparents would help out - they are even brought to the US for the purpose of babysitting and cost cutting - sometimes grandparents do it because they don't have a choice or because that is the only way to spend time with kids and grandkids - but that must not be forced - it is very cruel to assume they have nothing better to do in their old age along with whatever ailments they may have
