For me I have always stuck to a slower pace of publishing on Medium but I have diversified my writing (freelancing clients and other platforms) so I earn 4 figures from my writing side hustle -but yes I would credit Medium for giving me a solid base...the networking and opportunity to build a portfolio has been very helpful...
