I was in conversation with a person from my home country and she told me a story of how her sibling, a boy was given the best rice and meats while her sisters and herself were given just enough to sustain them because they were not boys

In the end, when the mom grew sick and old, it was only her daughters who tool care of her while the son she had pampered didn't care

So goes the story in many such families

I am so glad I don't live there because despite progress, some things like you mentioned are still stuck in the dark ages
