At one time US was the dream of many from my home country - I mean it still is because of the opportunities but not because it is a dream destination anymore - the last conversation I had with a relative was awkward to say the least because they kept alluding to what kind of ppl would go and shoot up schools -

I agree with what you say - it is scary and kind of puts things into perspective when you say you feel safer in Columbia than here -
