But the key thing is it has to be genuine - I have been apologized to only to have the same person repeat the same wrong again and again - what does one do then? Because if you truly love someone, you would refrain from doing the wrong since you know how much doing so hurts the other

Then there is ego that prevents an apology or even a sincere apology at that

Ego is a tricky thing - that's why some slights endure for generations...
