Ahhh..see these are questions that many of us writers struggle with. As a personal narrative writer, I don't share the names of the people in my stories unless they give me their permission.

I have boundaries in place as to how much intimate detail a story can go into while still retaining the relatability factor.

Am I making sense? :)
