5 things that might have helped

I started writing on Medium around four months back and imagine my surprise when I received an email from Medium congratulating me on being a Top Writer in the topic of This Happened To Me. Though it was a totally unexpected honor, it made for a very pleasant surprise.

How I took my power back — and 3 ways you can too.

Regardless of where you live — in a city, or in some small town — if you drop your guard, there will be someone waiting to take advantage of you,” — Steve Kardian (a martial-arts expert and former police officer)

I could sense him watching.

It’s creepy.

He devours me with his eyes while the chair of the committee drones on about budget cuts.

I feel violated. I can’t focus on any of the words that are been said.

It’s getting late and the meeting shows no sign of ending so I decide to leave.

Outside, the meager light shed…

3 strategies that can help stop it

Be careful how you share your light, the glow can attract bugs that bite.

According to the CDC a parasite is “ An organism that lives on or in a host and gets its food from or at the expense of its host. Parasites can cause disease in humans.”

An emotional parasite is someone who uses you to feed their emotional needs without any consideration for the emotional consequences that their demands make on you. They can leave you feeling drained and used.

According to exploringyourmind.com, there are 2 types of emotional parasites…

6 signs you may be tangling with a narcissist too.

My friend Mark is a sensitive soul. Growing up, he battled multiple health issues including obesity and depression. Perhaps that’s why he has a strong empathetic side to him. I worry that his giving nature acts as a magnet for a certain type of people who can’t wait to take advantage of it.

Did I mention he’s also very good looking? Yet, he’s oblivious to the effect he has on women courtesy of leftover self esteem issues from childhood.

But that’s besides the point. …

And why it doesn’t have to be that way

“Everything I experience hits me deep, raw and intense. As an empath I feel the energy of myself and others” — Sylvester McNutt III

Are you wary of getting close to someone because of the fear of sensory overload?

Sometimes empaths choose to remain alone than entangle themselves in a relationship where they can become mentally and emotionally exhausted.

It was only with the discovery that I am an emotional empath (someone who picks up the emotions of others) was I able to understand the reason why I kept getting overwhelmed…

6 things that may have helped

For me, writing is exploration; and most of the time, I’m surprised where the journey takes me” — Jack Dann

I started writing on Medium in February of this year. To be honest I had no idea what to expect nor did I know that it was home to this many publications! But I’m glad I decided to give it a try.

Initially, I would submit drafts to only a few publications but gradually I developed enough confidence to try out new publications which feel like a good fit for the topics I want…

And 5 strategies that helped me get over post break up slump

Recovery begins from the darkest moment- John Mayer

Breakups suck big time. It doesn’t matter if it was a short term relationship or one that lasted many years, it still sucks.

When you have loved someone with every fiber of your being, the ensuing heart ache from the loss of your soulmate and the burning questions of where do I go from here can be common themes of the narrative.

WebMD describes this as Broken Heart Syndrome: “Emotional stress can also send out a rush of stress hormones…

5 ways you can protect yourself from emotional vampires

We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change”- Sheryl Sandberg

I like to divide my life into two parts: how it was before and how it is after I learned that I am an empath.

The reason why is because that discovery was a life changing event for me.

Even though textbooks gave me knowledge which enabled me to obtain college degrees, that didn’t necessarily translate into wisdom. By wisdom I am referring to self awareness which I never sought.

Hint: definitely a bad idea to talk about your past conquests on a first date

At what point on a first date do you mention you are emotionally unstable and in financial ruin….just after appetizers?”

While honesty is an admirable trait, it is probably not the best idea for a guy to let it all hang out on the first date.

I mean there’s being honest, then there’s being honest to the point of appearing foolish.

I’m talking about the foot in your mouth kind of honest.

I knew the first time we met, that you’d be kinda hard to…
